Description
Sourced from one of the finest vineyards in Young, NSW, in the heart of the Hilltops region, at an elevation of around 600m.
About Tempranillo
Tempranillo is widely grown in Spain and underpins most of its finest wines, including those from the iconic regions of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Structurally, Tempranillo shares much in common with the famous Bordeaux variety, Cabernet Sauvignon. However its fruit favours speak more to red berry and cherry cola characters and often carry a savoury note.
Tasting Note
Our Hilltops Tempranillo is packed full of rich, spicy red fruit with a savoury undertone. It is ripe and full flavoured with fine tannins and a long fleshy finish.
Vineyard
The fruit was sourced from Moppity Vineyard and was picked early March at around 12.5 be.
Winemaking
After picking, the fruit was crushed and destemmed into open top fermenters, where a warm even fermentation took place. Once pressed the wine was transferred to a mixture of 1-3 year old French oak barriques for maturation.
Cellaring
Though drinking beautifully now, this fine wine will gain further complexity and interest over the next 3-5 years.
Food Match
An ideal match for roasted vegetables, cured and barbecued meats, spicy pizza and tomato-based sauces.

“An enticing deep purple red and very much a joven style, as it’s a juicy, youthful wine – even a touch raw at this stage. Expect a raft of bright, sweet and tangy cherries of all colours, some meaty reduction, layers of woodsy spices, sarsaparilla and fresh herbs. Sandy tannins work across a lighter-framed palate and while the acidity is a touch shrill, partner with food to temper it and don’t be afraid to chill this down on a warm day.” Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 90/100
