Sourced from one of Tumbarumba’s finest vineyards nestled in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains in NSW, at an elevation between 500-650m.
Our Tumbarumba Chardonnay displays the classic cool climate citrus and melon intensity of the region, with subtle smoky oak in support. A full flavoured wine with a long, complex finish.
The fruit was sourced from Tumbarumba, Coppabella Vineyard, blocks T12, T17 and T20. The vines are all V1 clone. Fruit was hand-picked in mid-March, between 12.9be and 13.6be.
After picking, 70% of the fruit was gently pressed to stainless steel vats and cool fermented. The balance was barrel fermented in a mixture of new and 1-3 year old French oak barriques and lees stirred weekly. 30% of the wine went through malolactic fermentation.
Though drinking beautifully now, this fine wine will gain further complexity and interest over the next 2-3 years.
This elegant wine is an ideal match for shellfish, poultry, and soft creamy cheeses.
Awards and Reviews
It is delightfully fruited and elegantly fragrant on the nose showing ripe stone fruit, lemon peel, grapefruit and vanilla characters, leading to a juicy palate that is beautifully weighted and focused. The wine offers bright fruit intensity and fine texture, brilliantly structured by vibrant acidity, finishing persistent and linear. At its best: now to 2023. – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (Five Stars, 93/100)
The quality of the wine is exceptional at this price, with the climate, viticulture, and winemaking producing this melody of stone fruit, grapefruit and rock melon fruit. – James Halliday (92/100)
Straight down the line, in a good way. Pure of fruit, straight of line, sound of length. Stone, pear and apple flavours with a suggestion of flint. Works well. – Campbell Mattinson, WineFront (91/100)
