Red and White Gold, and a Trophy at the Canberra Wine Show!

11 November 2024

Corang Estate has scooped gold medals for both red and white wine at the Canberra & Region Wine Show on Friday evening, also taking out the Trophy for the Best Sangiovese of Show!

The Chardonnay class is always a strong at the show with many excellent wines, and Michael & Jill Bynon of Corang Estate were delighted to pick up a gold medal with their 2022 Tumbarumba Chardonnay.

The accolades kept coming, with their 2023 Il Rosso also being awarded a gold medal, and most excitingly, the trophy for Best Sangiovese of Show!

“Il Rosso, meaning “The Red” in Italian is our first release of Sangiovese, explained Michael Bynon, “It is made in a super-Tuscan style with 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot. I’m a huge fan of Italian varieties and I was really excited to make this wine and do something a little different with it. We released it in January this year and it has been very popular with visitors to our cellar door. It’s made with excellent quality fruit from the Hilltops region and we’re absolutely thrilled that this first vintage has gained such prestigious recognition on the Canberra wine scene.”

Il Rosso is the second wine in “The Red” collection within the Corang Estate range. The wine also has two European-style cousins called El Tinto (a Spanish/Portuguese blend) and Le Rouge (a French blend).

Corang Estate was one of the exhibiting wineries at the Sydney Cellar Door event held at Circular Quay in Sydney last weekend, straight after the awards presentation, which provided a perfect opportunity to show off the new medal winners to lucky Sydney tasters!

Corang Estate wines are available at their cellar door in the village of Tarago, on the Corang Estate website, and in key on and off-premise outlets in Southern NSW.
