Description
Tasting Notes
This ‘Reserve Selection’ Shiraz shows beautiful purity of aromatic red berry fruit, great structure and lovely complexity! A truly fine wine – worthy of the cellar.
Vineyard
The fruit was sourced from a highly regarded 23-year-old vineyard in Murrumbateman. It was picked mid-March with an average Baume of 13.5.
Winemaking
After picking, most of the fruit was crushed and destemmed into open top fermenters and hand plunged, with around 40% of the bunches fermented whole, adding complexity and richness. Once pressed the wine was matured for 10 months in a mixture of new and aged French barriques.
Cellaring
This beautifully structured wine from a great vintage has all the depth and concentration required to age gracefully over the next 10 years.
Food Match
The complex, savoury nature of this wine will pair well with rich meat and game dishes and full flavoured cheese.
Reviews and Awards
Gold Medal – NSW Wine Awards 2020
“It starts off sumptuous and sweet-fruited but it turns more savoury and slender as it progresses through the palate. This is a good thing. It hones as it goes. Cherry-plum, peppercorn, twigs and sweet spices mix with smoky oak and mocha-like notes. There’s a bit of class to this.” Campbell Mattinson – Wine Front 93 points
“The nose is a complex mix of blackcurrant cassis, mixed with hints of spice, soft vanilla oak and cedar cigar box notes. The palate is complex and layered but in harmony. Starting with tight tannin and spice at the front followed by layers of fruit with good integrated oak, soft and well balanced. On the finish, it is long clean and lingering. Can be enjoyed now but will benefit from 6+ years in the cellar.” Stephen Read – Wine Matrix 91 Points
